Students must watch the Blacksmithing Safety and Demo video before arrival. Paul will cover basic techniques, which may include strike, taper, draw, bend, twist and punch. Non-members must sign our liability waiver before entry into the shop.

    Blacksmithing Demo & Assist is $5 for members. / $20 fee for non-members

    For students who have completed "Intro To MIG Welding"...take your skills to the next level in this Intermediate Level course. We'll start will a quick review of safety and machine fundamentals, then get right into the assembly of a project from start to finish. Learn the steps and process of a metal fabrication project! Your must complete the prerequisite before attending this class.

    Learn the basics of design and safe operation for the Koike Aronson ShopPro™ Plasma Cutting Table. This high performance CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine allows the user to cut steel and other metal materials with precision and accuracy.

    The workshop is in two parts:

    5:30 – 7:00 PM Introduction to FlashCut CNC CAD/CAM Software

    • Very basic explanation of how 2D vector files differ from 2D image files
    • Show how to import art into FlashCut CNC software
    • Show FlashCut CNC toggles between CAD, CNC and CAM

    7:00 – 8:30 PM Demo & Operator Basics For ShopPro™ CNC Plasma Cutting Table

    • Power up
    • Run demo of FlashCut driving the CNC Machine
    • Choosing consumables, amperage based on materials
    • Homing the machine
    • Z touch-offs and where X and Y is, using laser pointer
    • Setting up Lead-ins and lead-outs
    • Power down and clean up

    Come and experience the amazing power of a modern 3D computer design system. Learn how to use SolidWorks to design and create a simple object from idea, to design, to prepare for creating tangible real-world materials, like paper, plastics, and wood. Prerequisites: Student will have some basic experience with a personal computer, and be able to navigate a Graphical User Interface (i.e. Microsoft Windows or Apple MacOS) with a mouse as a pointing and selection device. This course is offered in two parts, though the second part is optional as a second session and requires separate registration. This class will take place in-person at MakerspaceCT.

    *This workshop is on-site at MakerspaceCT with safety protocols including social distancing. Cloth face coverings are required.
