MakerspaceCT is offering a free opportunity to learn a crucial discipline for starting a good paying career in Connecticut's thriving manufacturing industry. This program, offered to CT residents aged 16-24, will give participants a chance to get certified in OSHA 10/30, which is a valued credential for many jobs to ensure safe and healthy working conditions.

THE SCHEDULE:

Four Saturdays, April 22nd through May 13th.

Occupational Safety and Health Association Safety Course

Many manufacturers in Connecticut are required to meet federal safety standards when working in a manufacturing facility or shop floor. This course puts YOU ahead of your competition and having an OSHA30 rating on your resume makes you a “more-likely” candidate for these positions.

Curriculum Overview: OSHA30 SAFETY COURSE (30 hours)

Occupational Safety and Health Association Safety Course

Attendees will walk away with a true educational experience applicable to working in most shop environments. This interactive course is essential for on-the-job safety. You will learn from an OSHA certified instructor with questions and related case scenarios. Additionally, you will be provided with a OSHA 1910 manual for reference and complete a workbook throughout each course topic and watch the outcome of energized power tools being thrown into water, scaled scaffold, fall protection, rigging demonstrations and so much more right in the MakerspaceCT shop environment.

Training Program will consist of the following:

1. Introduction to OSHA, 2 Hours

2. Managing Safety and Health, 2 Hours

3. Walking and Working Surfaces, including fall protection – 1 hour

4. Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, Fire Prevention Plans, and Fire Protection – 2 hours.

5. Electrical – 2 hours.

6. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – 1 hour

7. Materials Handling – 2 hours.

8. Hazard Communication – 1 hour.

9. Hazardous Materials (Flammable and Combustible Liquids) - 1 hour

10. Permit-Required Confined Spaces - 1 hour

11. Lockout /Tagout - 1 hour

12. Machine Guarding - 1 hour

13. Introduction to Industrial Hygiene - 1 hour

14. Bloodborne Pathogens, 1 hour

15. Ergonomics - 2 hour

16. Powered Industrial Vehicles - 2 hour

17. Safety and Health Inspections and Audits - 7 hours
