CNC routers are a powerful tool in any modern maker’s arsenal. They can be used to cut, carve and shape many materials including wood, plastics, foam, cardboard, and more. They are quite often able to produce parts more accurately and efficiently than traditional manual processes freeing up makers to design, assemble and create more.

Vectric’s VCarve Pro software is a powerful yet user friendly CAD/CAM software that will allow even novice makers to design parts and prepare toolpaths to be run on our CNC router. Attendees for this class will have access to the software to download for Windows PCs.

This class will introduce students to VCarve’s design interface and we will guide them thru designing a small personalized first project. In this process we will overview drawing/modifying shapes, importing vectors and utilizing VCarve gadgets to streamline the design process.

They will then be introduced to generating toolpaths and preparing files for the Techno CNC. Proper tooling and material selection along with feed/speed calculations will be discussed so members are able to create safe and successful toolpath files for the CNC.

In the course we’ll also review basic wood shop safety along with CNC router specific safety considerations (not a substitute for MCT Wood shop Safety Training).

This course is open to members who have an interest in running the Techno CNC router in MakerspaceCT’s woodshop.

Registrants for this class will receive a link to download VCarve Pro onto their Windows PC.

You do not have to be a MakerspaceCT member to attend, but all students must sign up online and pay tuition to attend this class.
