The Engineering Primer program is a new opportunity for Hartford residents to get training and experience in new manufacturing technologies, earn an industry-recognized credential and interview for jobs with Connecticut manufacturers. This 10-week program is offered cost-free to Hartford residents

You will participate in three main areas of study in the following disciplines:

    Computer-Aided Design (CAD):

The CAD curriculum uses industry level software that is commonplace in Aerospace, Medical and product development companies. Sessions include using factory digital tools with product design simulation to create simple 3D models. Building on a teamwork experience lends itself to the everyday encounters in today’s manufacturing workforce.

    Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing Technologies):

The Additive curriculum is Manufacturing Basics and Additive Manufacturing. This curriculum was developed with the influence of experts from Collins Aerospace and General Dynamics, Electric Boat. Facilitation and training use the Manufacturing-X-Digital education system.

Electronics and IoT (Internet of Things):

The IoT curriculum is electronics and internet development. MakerspaceCT instructors are credentialed in electronics and IoT development. Instructional guidance and workshops are provided by industry professionals. Students explore pathways formed by EIT Digital’s Architecting Smart IoT Devices program.

The Engineering Primer program includes workforce development education and hands-on learning in the above fields, resume writing, presentation skills, and introduction to professional practices. The program concludes with a job fair, with at least 20 local manufacturing companies represented.

    SCHEDULE

COHORT Red is Saturdays, January 21st through March 25th. Each session is 10am - 4pm. The program runs 10 weeks, plus an additional session for a Job Fair.

    WEEKS 1 - 3: DESIGN IT

    CAD (Computer Aided Design)

A product development overview with sketching, orthographic view study and a move into digital modeling using reverse engineering.

    WEEKS 4 - 7: PRINT IT

    Additive Manufacturing - 3D Printing

An introduction to additive processes using CAD modeling to prepare and run prototypes for industrial 3D printing.

    WEEKS 8-10: ASSEMBLE IT

Electronics and Internet of Things (IoT)

Use hands-on experiences, with lab equipment, soldering and electronic component to assemble parts into a protorype.

    WEEK 11

    INTERVIEW WITH CT MANUFACTURING COMPANIES

20+ manufacturers will be on-site to interview you at MakerspaceCT.
