MakerspaceCT, a non-profit educational organization in Hartford, CT, is proud to offer "Building on the Trades", a comprehensive hands-on learning experience for young adults aged 18-29. This six-week program, starting in November 2025, is designed to equip 12 participants with essential trade skills and safety knowledge, culminating in a meaningful community service project.

Course Overview

LEARN THIS:

• Wood Shop tool use and safety
• Welding and Metal Fabrication basics
• Blueprint reading
• Material use and efficiency

THEN BUILD:

• Furniture and storage for the Community Service Project (see below)

OSHA 10 Certification

• A 10-hour class delivered by an OSHA-authorized trainer. The 10-hour class is intended to provide workers with awareness of common job-related safety and health hazards.

Community Service Project

Students will deliver storage solutions for South Park Inn, whose mission is to improve Hartford by providing equal access to shelter and solutions for all people to make homelessness rare, brief, and non-recurring.

This project not only hones the students' skills but also instills a sense of community responsibility and the importance of giving back.

Our goal is to provide participants with valuable trade skills while making a tangible difference in the community.
